Iveragh United U12 Boys White Team v KIllarney Celtic

Well done to Iveragh U 12 White team who defeated Killarney Celtic B 3.1 at home today in the Shield knock out competition. We were 0.0 at half time with very little separating the two teams . Both teams hit the bar and had chances glancing by the uprights.

Soon after the break the Iveragh lads piled on the pressure forcing a corner. Dylan O Donohue fizzed in a corner which was expertly met by a headed finish by Rory O Neill. 1.0 Iveragh. 5 mins later the teams talisman Niall O Connor lobbed the Killarney Celtic with a great touch and we were 2.0 up with 15 mins left on the clock.

Iveragh were on top with some excellent defending. Goalie Captain Dylan Bruce, backs Callum Wynton, Liam Cronin , Daragh O Connor, John Daniel O Driscoll and Dylan Carey and contender for Man of The Match Aidan O Driscoll who was all over the field. Glen O Shea, Cillian Kelly Dylan O D and Niall worked hard in Midfield. The 3rd goal came from more pressure when Wojtek’s shot was scrambled but Cillian K got it over the line.

We March on to the next round and look forward to another few games together after a great season before the team splits into u11s u12s and u13s for next season.

Thanks for the support and to everyone that volunteered to help the team today.

U16 Kerry Cup: Iveragh 3 v Tralee Dynamos 3 AET - Iveragh 4 - 1 on penalties

On Sunday the boys played Tralee Dynamos from the Premier Division and produced a magnificent, hard working display to knock one of the top teams out of the cup in absolutely horrible conditions with driving rain and wind for over 120 mins....

Tralee are a very good and well drilled team and for long periods of the game they controlled the ball with our lads sitting into a counter attacking style which plays to our strengths....Tralee went one up when they split our defence, after a poor clearance, with their slick one touch passing from right to left and opened up our defence with 4 quick passes.

Iveragh didn't let this affect them and within 5 mins we were back on level terms when Ramin shot from edge of the box, the keeper fumbled it and Ramin was the quickest to smack in the rebound.. Ramin was then again put through from a great ball from Gavin but missed a one on one with the keeper.

Even though Tralee had a lot of the ball we had the better chances and were unlucky to be going in 1 - 1 at the break.. 15 mins into the second half Tralee went ahead again with a shot into the top corner, there was no stopping it but again our lads stormed back into it and Nedas equalised from a corner and scramble in the box.....

For the next ten minutes Sean Griffin showed us what a cracking keeper he is when pulled off 3 or 4 great saves when either he stopped one on ones or dived full length to keep Dynamos out, another one he tipped over the bar: he made so many it was hard to keep up...

Dynamos took the lead again with about 6 mins to go when they crossed from the left and one of their boys rose highest, burying it with a header to the back post. Just when you think it was all gone from us again the lads pushed and it was with the introduction of fresh legs in the last 15 mins Liam, Sean, Ryan, Sean Q etc that it stood to us and we equalised with 3 mins to go from Ramin.. Great come back again.

Then in the last minute Sean Griffin again denied Dynamos when he somehow stretched out his right leg to stop a shot inside the box to deny Dynamos once again. Extra time he again made a wonderful save down to his right to stop a pile driver from outside the box....

Ramin had another great chance when he rounded the keeper but the wind and rain made it hard to control it and he sent it past the post.. Both teams went for it but in the end both were glad to get to penos..

Ramin scored first for us then it was the Sean Griffin show he made 2 great saves to deny Tralee. Mark, Zach and Nedas converted theirs - all great penos - and we ran out 4 1 winners..

Man of the match by a mile was Sean Griffin and it was great to see the whole squad run to him after the shoot out even in the dressing room they were cheering for him . What made this a great result was the fact that most of this squad had lost the previous day to Killoglin 2 - 1 in the U15 Cup. Killorglin are 2nd in the Premier Division and we were very disappointed to lose that as we had goals felt we'd left it behind us. Also the older lads Jake, Zach, Mark and a few more had lost the Youth Cup game Thursday night 2 - 1 in very frustrating circumstances, the less said about it the better..

Today was a full squad effort and every one of them played their part.. Well done boys but the main man for this one was Sean Griffin great display of goalkeeping.. Go Iveragh!

U16 Cup: Park B 5 - Iveragh 6..

The second game of the day was a crazy one.. We mainly played our U15 squad for this as a lot of our U16 boys played U17 beforehand. We played on the park astro for this one and it's top class surface to play on telling the boys before hand to enjoy playing on it...

The boys struck early through Ramin when he took on the full back and slotted in into the far left for a great finish. Park equalised quickly after this when a ball bobbled in over stand in keeper Mark O’Connor..

We went back ahead again through Ramin and Park once again equalised from a deflection off one of our defenders head it hit him in the head off our clearance nothing u could do.. 2 - 2 at half time..

Park struck again after a lot of pressure to make it 3 - 2 and followed with another from the wing.. 4 2.... Cathal O’D scored a cracker from the right hand side to make it 4 3 bit withhing 2 mins Park made it 5 - 3 with a shot from 30 yards that went over our keeper, great goal to be fair, he looked up and struck it early..

The next 15 mins was the Mark O’Connor show as he hit a wonderful hat trick. Each of them wonderful goals but the pick was his second when he just drove at the defence and unleashed a rocket into the top right hand corner no keeper was saving it. Mark just took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored our winner with3 mins to go; it was a wonderful comeback, to win it..

This U15 team just don't know when to stop and it was a fantastic team display to dig it out and fight back.. We used every player today that travelled in the bus.. Some paying a game and a half fair play to each one of them..

U15/16 into the next round of this cup

We would also like to thank Tommy cournane for driving the lads to the game as always a gentleman to deal with. Thanks Tommy

U17 Premier B: Park 3 - Iveragh 4.

This was our second last game in Premier B knowing that a win would put us within touching distance of Premier B champions. The game started off with the park dominating the possession but not really threatening our goal.. Once Iveragh settled down we got our passing going and hit the front through Ramin after 22 mins when he took on the defender and turned him inside out and slotted inside the left post for a great individual goal..

The second followed shortly after from Jake Moriarty when he latched onto a ball at the edge of the box and drilled it home low and hard into the bottom corner; Jake is getting a habit now of popping up with important goals for us lately..

The third came quickly after this when Ramin slipped in Cai O’Sullivan who drilled it under the keeper for a great finish.. Park seemed to come out of their shell then and came back into it very strongly with 2 goals before half time - thank God half time arrived as we’d lost our shape completely.

The second half was a real battle between the 2 teams with chances for both sides.. Park really put it up to us and at times we got lucky but you make your own luck at times..

The 4th goal was scored by Ramin who met a corner with a great header Back across goal which got the slight deflection to send it past the keeper.. Just when you think we could relax at 4 - 2 Park responded again within 3 mins to make it 4 3..

The final ten mins were frantic with tackles, bookings, attacks end to end but the lads held out and we were very, very relieved to hear the final whistle.

Fair play to Park for a great game of football they always put it up to us whenever we play them..

This was a hard fought win for the lads and was a great testament to their spirit as we were made up of a few U15 lads due to 3 of the first team off sick or lazy.

Gavin Griffin was outstanding today again in an age group 2 years up for him but my man of the match was Pierce O’Sullivan who just didn't put a foot wrong all day in the full back position dealing with a lad who was full of pace and was physically bigger than him..

We now sit top of Premier B with 1 game to go..

Our U12 Girls team were out on Saturday after a 4 week break and they were raring to go.

Our first goal was sent into the back of the net within 10 minutes, followed shortly by our 2nd. Dynamo fought back and scored, for 2-1, but this didn’t faze our girls, they fought hard and by half time they were 3-1 up.

The second half didn’t disappoint as both teams came out fighting and Dynamo were able to slip 1 past our defence. It was 3-2 now and the girls knew they couldn’t let another one slip so they tightened their defence and battled on, scoring 2 more goals by full time, 5-2 to Iveragh.

Fantastic game played by all girls, they’re a force to be reckoned with.

Iveragh U12 White team are league champions after beating Killorglin 3 - 2 in Killorglin yesterday. The players knew going into this game that a win meant they would be crowned Champions, but in fairness to them they put this out of their heads and warmed up and got ready for the game.

The game was very 50/50 in the opening 10 mins with saves by both Cian Coffey and the Killorglin keeper keeping it at 0 - 0, then in the 11th minute Dylan O Donoghue gained position in midfield he drove a shot towards the top left corner of the goal from 25 yards and the goalie got his hands to it but Iveragh were 1- 0. Great goal!

10 mins later Killorglin took a corner from the left hand side of the field and it ended in the back of the net. What happened after showed the character of this team. Niall O’Connor, Dylan O D, Dylan Bruce, Glen O’Shea grabbed the ball out of the net and ran to kick off straight away.

Within 90 seconds it was 2.1, such is the mentality of the lads. Niall o connor put us ahead. We went 3.1 up in the Second half after another Niall O Connor goal. Niall worked all day for the team and it’s not the first time this season he got a brace of goals or more.

Liam Cronin , Daragh O Connor, Callum Wynton, Aidan Driscoll and John Daniel O Driscoll were outstanding in defence. Cool and organised against a pacy incessant Killorglin forward line.

Our midfielders, Cillian Kelly, Dylan O Donoghue, Niall O Connor , Dylan Bruce and Glen O Shea all worked so hard box to box . Up front Woytek and Rory o Neill kept the Killorglin defence full of problems and both strikers were so close to scoring and they pressed and worked for their team when asked to.

Thanks to Killorglin for a very sporting game and one of the toughest games all season .

We started the year with a 4 -0 away to Kenmare after only one training session then won 6 in a row to go top.

We got a painful humbling at the hands of Killarney Celtic a few weeks ago meaning we had to beat Kenmare and Killorglin to guarantee the league and that’s just what this team did.

The players are a credit to their parents and the club in the way they conducted themselves all season and they thoroughly deserve their title for their 10/10 attitudes and discipline and hard work.

The team would like to thank all the supporters that followed us around the county and washed jerseys , took the money and car pooled.

We’d like to thank Andrew Wynton and Fergal O’Connor for helping us with training .

This team is in the cup next week away in Ballybunion . So more days out to follow. Congrats lads and best of luck as ye progress up the ranks in Iveragh Utd.

U15 Cup Iveragh FC 2 v Park B 0...

This was our 3rd week in a row playing cup competition and once again they passed with flying colours.. We came up against a very resilient Park team who defended in numbers, sometimes having 6 across their back line with 2 always on Ramin..

Iveragh dominated the first half creating 7 or 8 chances but just couldn't get one past a very good goalkeeper and strong defence... Gavin Griffin was running midfield and was first to everything and just set up wave after wave of attacks every time we got it wide we created chances but it just wouldn't go in the net.

Second half was much of the same wit park setting up to counter attack and did create a few chances put Sean Griffin was equal to anything that came at him. Sean has really taken up the mantle in goal for us and turned out to be a fantastic goal keeper as well as centre back..

We finally got the break through on 30 mins after several corners and attempts when Ramin received a ball on the edge of the box and shot low and hard under the keeper – we were finally ahead.! The 2nd followed shortly when Matthew Sullivan crossed a wonderful ball to the back post which Ramin met with a bullet of a header to clinch the game..

This again was a great team display where they created numerous chances and while they weren't going in they just kept piling on the pressure and didn't panic..

Well done lads into the next round of the cup for this team..
